Very quiet and easy to use….take your time acclimating the dog to the noise and vibration….
Our little mini dachshund has hulk-like strength when it comes to fighting us off when trying to trim her toenails. We bought this grinder hoping it would make the task a bit easier and more pleasant for her and us. The first day we got the grinder I simply placed it next to her as she sat with me on the sofa and tucked it under her blanket next to her when she was napping. She ignored it. The next day I turned it on and let her sniff it and inspect it with the safety cover over the grinding wheel. She was fascinated by the sound of it (it is very quiet! Much more quiet than I expected!) and a little afraid of it at first. After hearing it start up a few times she ignored it and let me use the base end of it to rub her belly so she could feel the slight vibration. She was rewarded with treats. On day three I began touching it to her feet and nails with the motor off at first until she was OK with it and rewarded her with treats after every successful touch. I finally turned it on and started touching the pads of her feet and her nails with the motor on so she could feel the slight vibration but I kept the safety cover over the grinder wheel so that she could learn that it wouldn’t hurt her. She resisted and pouted with me as she does any time I touch her feet for any reason and retired to her bed to give me a hateful, side-eyed glare after each time I dared touch her feet with it. She eventually came around to reluctantly letting me touch her feet with it after receiving a treat each time she stayed put through the exercise. Day four was the real test. I went through the same process of touching her feet with the motor on and the safety cap on and rewarding her without actually grinding her nails a few times. When she seemed calm enough I removed the safety cover and touched the grinding wheel to the first nail. Instant freakout!! She jumped up and ran away to pout in her bed for a while. I didn’t reward her for this behavior but instead remained on the sofa with the grinder at the ready and tempted her back over to me with treats. When she returned I went through the process again of giving small treat rewards with each step until I was able to make contact with her nail again. This time she let me do one nail before deciding that she’d had enough and squirmed from my lap. I continued tempting her back to me with treats and after 3 or 4 more times of letting me grind just a bit and wriggling away she finally relaxed and let me complete grinding all 8 front nails! She still wouldn’t let me do the front dew claws. She was rewarded with lots of belly rubs and head scratches and more treats after that accomplishment and I left her alone to rest in her bed. She was still throwing bit of side-eye attitude so she definitely didn’t enjoy the experience, but at least she let me do it without a fight and without any risk of hurting her by trying to restrain her too aggressively or cutting into the quick as could happen with traditional nail trimmers. Today I went through the slow acclimation process again with lots of treats until she let me do her dew claws and rear nails. She still wasn’t happy about it, but it was a lot easier today than yesterday. The grinder is very quiet. My ultrasonic toothbrush makes more noise. It grinds the nails very smoothly but it is not a quick process. It takes off a very small amount at the time but that’s a good thing as there is no danger you will grind down to the quick with a single touch to the nail. Follow the instructions and take off just a bit at the time in short, light touches to keep the friction from burning the nails. I am very pleased with this product.

I have 2 dogs, one big (American Bulldog) and one huge (English Mastiff). I bought this nail grinder after reading tons of reviews. My American Bulldog is a neurotic mess. Apparently no one ever touched his paws as a puppy. When we got him he had the longest nails ever. He was so difficult to try and hold him while someone else did the clipping. It was traumatic for everyone involved. To make matters worse he has the fastest growing nails. I had cut many a dog nail with the traditional clippers, and saw them split sometimes, or have the occasional nick of the vein. :-/ So I bought this.Noise Level – its not loud at all. Easy to Use – well…there is an element of skill here. However I learned it very quickly, and once I knew what I was doing, it is very easy to use. Easy to Hold – Very nicely so.I only used it on the Mastiff once. Yes, it still works, it just takes a lot longer.With the Amer. Bulldog, I started by doing each of his front nails for 2 seconds. A few days later I did all of his nails for 3 seconds. The poor boy was shaking uncontrollably. I had serious question about if this would work. But we did it a 3rd time, and a 4th time. We are to the point of being able to make sure he doesn’t escape, to barely holding him – still shaking, but barely.I felt like such a terrible Dog Mom when I could not successfully cut his nails, even with help by a “holder”. It was exhausting and I hated every second. After getting this nail grinder, I can manage the job without getting exasperated. Chewie is able to walk better because his nails aren’t too long for the 1st time ever. I’d call that a huge victory.If you have a big, or a huge dog, or two, if you take the plastic nail guide cap off, be sure to hold the individual nail you want to work on. It is much more difficult to control and jerk the nail around – not good. I would also recommend a breathing mask because all the particles of nail start to permeate the air. And who doesn’t have a mask these days?

The inbuilt LED light is also quite useful. Battery lasts long time.

I have successfully used this grinder for my greyhound, who is terrified of the clippers. She was already accustomed to having her nails filed and accepted the grinder without any problems. She seems to enjoy the attention. It only grinds a small amount at a time, so I do her nails little and often rather than try to do too much all at once. A good product.

While it is quiet, my dogs still don’t like their feet touched, so can’t use it on them. However, it is great on my acrylic nails to shorten them and shape them to how I like them before I go for an infill. The battery seems to last ages once it is charged. I can’t fault it, even though I can’t manage to use on my dogs. They likely need some further training to get them to tolerate anything being done to their feet.
