Heavy duty
Off first impression this leash is very sturdy and quality looking. I love the color of blue it comes in and the thickness of the tape seems to be heavier duty than any other I’ve seen. The lock works great and the release even better although the handle is very bug in my hand and is hard to control and fatigues my hand faster than other leashes. A little bulky but other than that, its a great buy!

Works Great!!!
I bought this for our 150 lb. Great Dane. And it works perfectly. He is leash trained and isn’t one that pulls. So he walks perfectly and it allows him enough room to walk his own speed. Especially since his walking gate is longer than mine. Better than a regular leash. Has room to roam. But is very durable. Easy to use. The click to stop works great. Worth every penny.

Great Handle but Thin Leash
The handle for this leash is very sturdy and has a good weight to it. However the actual tape leash part is thin. My dog likes to put that part in his mouth and a small tear already appeared. I solved this by duct taping about 1 foot of the tape over the leash so that it won’t tear. Since doing that it has been fine. The lock feature works well.

We have 2 Staffordshire Bull Terriers [think pit bull but small and friendly] weighing around 50 and 70 pounds. We had leashes for them before but one was annoying me to use and the other was purchased for the 50 pound dog but we used it with the 70 pounder and it was making me a little uncomfortable not knowing if it was strong enough to hold him without it snapping or anything crazy like that. So we got these extra strong ones to hold them both and I’m much more confident in their ability to hold the dogs properly. They look great, feel great in the hand, they’re big but don’t take up too much room, 16′ length is more than enough for when one wants to stop and sniff a bush and I can just keep going until they catch up. My biggest complaint is the locking feature. I always have had locks that push forward where this one pushes back and it feels a little odd. Takes some getting used to. Worth getting again and I recommend this one to anyone who has a big or med-big dog. Obviously if you have a chihuahua you don’t need something like this.

Kong Tuff for a reason.
This leash is amazing its a bit pricey but worth it. The handle is comfortable with all the controls right there for my thumb to access. The leash is average I do wish they made longer versions of this leash and with my dog on the larger side I feel its width is a bit thin and would like to see it wider but over all this is a rugged heavy built leash for your energetic dogs that love the outdoors.

problem resolved
the worst kong product I have ever purchased, leash frayed 1/2 thru after 1 use, contacted customer service twice and no response, look elsewhere if you need a retractable leash., UPDATE: most of my frustration about this produst was about the companies failure to respond to my problem, well today I received a brand new leash in the mail, this negates the above review which would not have bben posted had someone communicated with me.

Bad experience
Bought one in August and the button on the side is stuck and leach will not move. Rebought in October and a matter of three weeks the same thing happened. Leach is stuck and button does not work. Would not recommend.

Bought to replace my last kong lead which I lost after using for four years. Very robust lead and nicely made. Good retractable action and comfortable to hold. Have found that the button to stop and release a bit stiff and not as easy to use as the old one.

I’ve been using this leash for the majority of my first dog’s life and planned to use it on our new puppy too. It feels good in my hand and the locking feature is intuitive, especially after using it for 13+ years. We had to buy a second one on amazon since they don’t sell these exact ones locally anymore. My puppy was still in his teething phase when we first introduced him to the old leash so it was almost chewed through. If you have a chewer that likes to protest being on a leash, I wouldn’t recommend this since it doesn’t hold up to abuse well. But it handles my 18-20 pound dogs just fine when used properlyThis is the only leash I will use due to its comfort and controls. I’m expecting this leash to last for at least another ten years if there are no chewing incidents so I hope kong doesn’t stop making theseThe only thing I have a minor issue with is that drops on concrete will result in nicks and scratches but that is understandable considering it’s being dropped on concrete and it’s made of a material that’s sturdy but comfortable in your hand
